Guided tour to the Museum Cave of the Font Major of l'Espluga This is a cave next to the source of the river Francolí, which flows into Tarragona. The cave was discovered in 1853 but it was not explored and studied until 1956. The speleologic explorations of the cave have exceeded 3.590 meters of underground galleries and have discovered a subterranean river which goes outside through the FONT MAJOR. Therefore this cave achieves the international standard of "great cavity" and, because of its size, it is one of the largest conglomerate caves in the world. In the cave, an archaeological site was found which proved the presence of the man in the cave 4.600 years BC, when it accommodated a neolithic community which lived permanently there. However, the latest discoveries have highlighted relevant archeological remains from the lower paleolitic. Appropriate footwear and anorak are recommended (because of the dampness). Tour to the monastery of Poblet Poblet is a monastery of Cistercians monks following the Rule of Saint Benedict, since its foundation, in 1150. Abolished by the laws of the State in 1835, it was reestablished in 1940 by monks of the same order from Italy. Poblet represents an amazing architectonical site and it can be considered one of the most important monastic sites in Europe. In fact, it is the greatest inhabited monastic site of the European Continent. Since the Middle Age it is an important symbol of the countries of the ancient Corona d'Aragó. |

| Santa Úrsula festival in Valls. Festival of Castells (Human towers) Since October 22nd to 24th the Santa Úrsula festival is celebrated, with several cultural and civic activities (musical parades, fire-festival, concerts, funfair, etc.). The main attraction of the festival is the show of Castells (Human towers) on Sunday at 13:00 at the Plaça del Blat, which is the closing ceremony of the Castells season in Valls. During the last festivals, the Plaça del Blat has attended the most great Castells achieved by the two groups of Valls: the Colla Vella dels Xiquets de Valls and the Colla Joves Xiquets de Valls. Towards Language-Competent Web Search Abstract: When searching the web, we cannot even reliably ask simple questions requiring little or no inference, such as "Who won the Formula 1 race last year". Whether with a keyword-based system or with a linguistically informed one, the only "answer" is a deluge of documents that the user must wade through, and which may or may not contain the answer. Even web-mining agents that include sophisticated parsers in order to admit English queries exhibit, surprisingly, elementary logic flaws (e.g., incorrect answers to questions containing conjunctions and disjunctions). The parsing ability they incorporate has not been integrated with logic ability, despite the fact that logical inference, being crucial for NLU, should be flexibly available for computing answers as well as for parsing purposes. We argue that a real breakthrough can only come from flexibly integrating in synergistic fashion the three disciplines involved (namely, /web-based knowledge acquisition/, since the information deluge is pouring mostly as web documents; /natural language understanding/, since much of the information to be processed is in text form, and /versatile inference,/ both to help interpret language correctly and to draw reliable inferences as needed from the knowledge it expresses). We discuss the features needed for such an integration, with stress around the - presently dire- needs of computational biology. |

Autonomia i intel·ligència artificial en sistemes aeroespacials Resum: La ponència s'iniciarà amb una introducció general del Centre de Tecnologia Aeroespacial (CTAE), incloent una breu presentació dels grups i les seves línies prioritàries de recerca, tecnologia i desenvolupament (RTD), i en especial les activitats dutes a terme en els grups de "Safety-Critical Software and Control" i "Robotics and Advanced Automation". Seguidament es donarà una visió dels sistemes espacials i els diferents components que són necessaris en l'execució de les missions, tant Solars i Planetàries com Interplanetàries i d'Exploració Espacial. Aquesta perspectiva es complementarà amb les necessitats de millorar l'automatització i l'autonomia dels sistemes de control de missió terrestres i embarcats. El rol de la Intel·ligència Artificial, l'autonomia i altres tècniques i tecnologies seran també revistades en certs camps de l'aeronàutica, els quals formen part de les activitats actuals i d'interès del CTAE; com per exemple els sistemes embarcats i aviònica, la gestió de trafic i control aeri, la gestió aeroportuària o el camp emergent de la integració de vehicles aeris no tripulats en espai aeri no-segregat, entre d'altres. |
