Summary
Multilayer, interdependent and multiplex networks have gained a lot of attention in recent years for their applications in social sciences, large-scale infrastructures, technology, etc. In the last few years, a number of classical mathematical models has been applied on this new paradigm, uncovering a wealth of new behaviours and processes. Among those, bootstrap percolation is a simple but nontrivial model. It can be seen as the simplest example of a contagion process and has applications in many areas of science and has been explored on random networks for several decades. I will present an extension of bootstrap to multiplex networks and show that in this scenario the bootstrap process decouples from the corresponding pruning process, due to the multiplex nature of the model. This bootstrap model has potential applications in critical infrastructure recovery and information security.
