Keynote 1: Big Data Analytics: Systems and Algorithmic Challenges

Prof. Pietro Michiardi, Eurecom, France

Abstract: In this talk, I will overview a selection of topics covering both systems and algorithmic aspects of large- scale data analysis. At the system level, we will overview current research on topics ranging from resource management (e.g. scheduling and elasticity) to multi-query optimization (also known as work-sharing), and indicate current trends in large-scale distributed systems design and architectures. At the algorithmic level, we will focus on machine learning and the intricacies of designing and analyzing scalable algorithms for both bounded and unbounded data, and discuss real-life applications and lessons learned.

Keynote 2: How to Protect and Exploit my Research Results

Júlia Nebot, FURV, Spain

Abstract: “Do you know if your research results can be protected and how? Do you know if they can be exploited and how? As student of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, you have the support of Technology and Innovation Transfer Centre specialists by URV Foundation. In this talk, I will present you the different ways for making business from the results of your Ph.D. work. You should know the author and co-authors rights, the procedures for protecting ideas or software and finally how to sell your technology or create your own spin-off company.”
