The biomechanics and especially the biomedical engineering apply the principles and methods that come from diverse fields to the study of the living structures (from the mathematics up to the medicine). The biomechanics, applied to the man, helps to understand better the functioning and the mechanical limitations of the different structures of the body: bones, muscles, ligaments, etc.
It is specially interesting this when it is applied to phenomena that cannot be studied "in vivo" and therefore a simulation must be generated of it determine in that a certain phenomenon happens, using the Finite Element Method. Nowadays, our group is studying the genesis of some very common phenomenons: the hernias and thromos. Our interest consists of providing a reasonable explanation of their origin, treatment and prevention.
